Facebook ads for a garden accessories brand
A garden accessories brand selling into 700 retailers had an ads person who barely logged in. Attention alone turned the ad spend around.
Lucas, Plant accessories. Recorded February 2023.
Lucas launched his garden accessories brand in 2020. It now sells through more than 700 garden centres across the US and Canada alongside a direct-to-consumer business, on the back of branding that gets noticed in a category that mostly does not bother.
Their previous arrangement failed on the most basic level. Communication was poor, results were flat, and the actual time spent inside the ad platform was, as he puts it, nothing. Accounts do not decline dramatically when nobody is watching. They just quietly stop improving.
Return on ad spend turned around once the account was being actively managed — creative rotated, budget moved toward what was working, and questions answered the same day.
They produce their own media in-house, so the arrangement is a genuine split: they make assets, the campaigns and ad-level work happen here. Lucas is direct about why they do not run it themselves — not skill, but time, and the money a learning curve costs at their spend level.
The unexpected result is that customers now mention the ads to their sales team unprompted. Ads people actually remember are rare, and in a category as visually samey as garden supply that is a real edge.
If you cannot say when your ad account was last touched, that is the problem. Meta rewards frequency of attention more than almost anything else.
In Lucas’s words
“I was working with a different agency and the communication was really bad. The amount of time spent on the actual platform working on the ads was just like nothing.”
“You came on and everything just completely changed. We’ve been seeing a really great return on ad spend, and the attention is there 100 percent.”
“We see a customer and they’re like, hey, by the way, whoever runs your ads is really good — we see them all the time and they’re very engaging.”
